It can be so frustrating when your qualifications are really, really close to a job’s requirements – but not quite there. Do you apply? Will you get rejected?
If your qualifications for a job posting are close but not perfect, here are some ways to ensure you don’t escape the hiring manager’s attention:
- Try a functional resume.
- Insert job skill categories into your resume to highlight your specific experience and unique qualities – and how they relate to the job requirements.
- Write a killer cover letter.
- Show that you’re willing and able to learn new skills.
A good post with some key points.
A good cover letter really is key as this is often the first impression you make on a potential employer.
It's worth spending time gettign it right.

The killer cover letter is the key here. This is where you can have a "conversation" with the employer. Remeber to request a meeting/interview. You don't get what you don't ask for! Good Luck!

Great post. Keep in mind that the prime goal of sending a cover letter with your resume is to land a job interview NOT land the job. If you keep this in mind, you will be able to keep the cover letter brief and to the point.

In my experience a cover letter can go a long way in helping you shine. Just take you time and make sure you do a good job on it.
