CareerBuilder WorkLife Blog: Job Hunting Bait & Switch

Is searching for fulfilling white collar work nothing more than an endless loop of failures and frustrations?  Are middle-management workers really as desperate as popular culture often makes them out to be?

Journalist Barbara Ehrenreich went undercover to find out – and chronicled her experiences in Bait and Switch, the sequel to her best-selling novel Nickel and Dimed, a look into the lives of the blue-collar poor.

Ehrenreich bought some new clothes, wrote up a fake resume and went off in search of a job in public relations.  After a year of looking for a job, aided by career coaches and employment workshops, she found nothing – and launched a scathing critique of the system..
